  • Back in Boca Del Drago, after 10 days of paper work in Panama city. The Ngöbe-Buglé had a unanimous win, the government agreed with their terms; the rainforest gets to live a little longer. Spent the day swimming with Ocean. The water is crystal clear and the corals beautiful. I Love Noa, she puts galaxies of energy into what we do and she gorgeous....... How lucky am I :D
    (13/02/12 @ 07:39)

  • On Monday the 30th January the Ngöbe-Buglé occupied the streets and blocked several major roads in the North-West of Panama, stopping any traffic through this part of central America. They are protesting about two things, 1st Plans for a hydro electric power station 2nd Plans for extensions to an already problematic copper mine Both plans involve displacement of Ngöbe-Buglé villages and major destruction of pristine rainforest, valleys and mountains.... Their ancestral lands. This has caused major disruption to Panama. Food and fuel has been delayed getting to the markets, cars are running on empty and tourist are not able to get to their destinations. The government under Martinelli are concerned, in response they have withheld humanitarian aid citing that the workers were to scared to enter the Comarca. Martineli offered to fly a representative group to the capitol in a helicopter to hold talks. The minister of tourism and a high ranking member of the clergy visited there area to see if they could diffuse the situation. The Ngöbe-Buglé refused these short term publicity stunts, they want to talk with the legislative not the ministerial power. Meanwhile Martineli is suggesting that foreign interest groups and opposition groups are responsible for agitating this situation. The suggestion being that this is not his problem. Hmmm! Today the road blocks were temporally lifted allowing produce and people through. Something went terribly wrong, the police shot several Ngöbe-Buglé killing one. The Ngöbe-Buglé responded by burning down a police hut on the side of the road, harming no one. The road blocks are back up and thousands of Ngöbe-Buglé are heading down from the hills to join the protest, facing tear gas and more. Now the Kuna and Embera indians have joined their indigenous colleagues in protesting with their own road blocks over encroachments into their ancient tribal lands, from governmental and commercial bodies. The indigenous communities have joined forces and are also protesting in the city of Panama. We are joining the march to the presidential compound. While we don't have the answers to this problem we do know that any form of violent repression of the creative and wonderful people of the earth is not a solution. Meet these people at the table and work things out for the best of all parties concerned, it'll probably take some time. Remember we live on an ancient planet and it took time to get here. SO here we are! Mother, father and two year old daughter prepared to be counted........ HOW ABOUT YOU? DO YOU EVEN CARE?
